ℹ️ Turning Files into Concepts: Once you’ve uploaded files into Storytell, we will automagically extract the concepts hidden in your files so you can work with them directly, giving you an entirely new way to talk to your data. You can get a Concepts overview here, and learn about Using concepts in your workflow.
Three Ways to Upload Content
Storytell offers three flexible methods for adding content to your workspace, each suited to different needs.
Upload Files
Upload files directly from your computer using your system's file browser.
Supported formats: Storytell supports a wide range of file types including documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, images, and more. View the full list of Supported file types and formats.
🚀 Pro-Tip: You can also drag and drop files directly from your computer into any chat interface or the file drop zone.
Paste Content

Create an asset by pasting text, code, or other content directly into Storytell—no file required.
This is ideal for quickly adding snippets, notes, or content from other applications without having to create a file first.
Add URL

Import content from any public webpage by providing its URL.
ℹ️ Note: URL uploads work only on the specific page you provide and do not extract images from the webpage. For authenticated pages or to capture images, use the Storytell Chrome Extension instead.
Where to Upload
You can access all three upload methods from three convenient locations in Storytell.
From the Home Page

When you first open Storytell or create a new chat, you'll see upload options prominently displayed.
Look for the Upload files, Paste content, or Add URL options in the center of the interface
Click your preferred method to begin
From the Prompt Bar

Access upload options from any chat using the paperclip icon in the prompt bar.
Locate the paperclip icon at the bottom left of the prompt bar
Hover over or click the icon to reveal the three upload options
Select 'Upload files', 'Paste content', or 'Add URL'
From Project Knowledge

Manage all your project's assets through the Project Knowledge panel in the sidebar.
Open the Project Knowledge panel from the left sidebar
Click the upload button at the top of the panel

Uploading Web Pages with Images
If you need to capture webpage content including images, or access authenticated pages, use the Storytell Chrome Extension.
Why use the Chrome Extension:
Captures complete webpage content including images
Works with authenticated pages (behind login walls)
Provides more comprehensive content extraction than URL uploads

Working with Concepts
After uploading files, Storytell automatically extracts concepts hidden in your data, giving you an entirely new way to interact with your information.
What are Concepts:
Concepts are key themes, entities, and ideas that Storytell identifies in your files. Once extracted, you can reference these concepts directly in your prompts, create visualizations, and generate insights without manually searching through documents.
