Concepts powering your chat

Concepts are now directly integrated into chat, making your conversations with Storytell more powerful and more connected to your knowledge. Instead of just getting an answer back, you can see the underlying Concepts that support the response, explore them in detail, and switch seamlessly between answers and evidence.

What Are Concepts in Chat?

When you ask Storytell a question that draws on your uploaded knowledge, such as a spreadsheet, transcript, or deck, the system automatically extracts Concepts. These are key ideas, themes, or entities pulled from your files.

These concepts appear in the chat alongside Storytell’s response, so you are not just reading an answer. You are also seeing how the answer is grounded in your materials.

How It Works

  • Artifacts in Chat
When chat creates an artifact, for example a web search result or structured output, it replaces the chat pane on the right. Closing the artifact brings the chat view back.

  • Concepts as an Interactive Layer
Concepts appear below the chat when your prompt uses knowledge from your files. Each concept represents a cluster of related snippets from your knowledge base.

    • Click a concept - opens the concept detail view

    • High-level view - see a summary of the concept

    • Detailed view - browse the original snippets that form the concept

    • Close and reopen - you can toggle the concept view without losing your place in the chat

  • When Concepts Do Not Appear
Concepts are only shown if your question triggers a knowledge search.

    • If you ask something unrelated to your files, such as a general question or a query without scope, the chat will not display concepts because there is no underlying knowledge to surface.

Why It Matters

Concepts in chat turn Storytell into more than just a Q&A tool:

  • You get answers plus evidence in the same flow

  • You can quickly jump between a high-level response and the supporting details from your knowledge

  • Your research becomes navigable and interactive, rather than a static upload
