An Entirely New View into Your Unstructured Data
Concepts are Storytell's automatically extracted knowledge entities that help you make sense of scattered information by identifying and categorizing the ideas and themes hidden inside your files.
Instead of manually searching through documents, spreadsheets, and meeting transcripts, Concepts create an intelligent knowledge graph that shows you everything related to key topics in one interconnected view.
The knowledge graph visualization allows you to explore these relationships interactively, seeing how different concepts connect to each other and understanding the broader context of your information landscape.
Understanding how “Concepts” work:
🚀 Pro-tip: Learn how to use data views to scope the knowledge you want to work with.
ℹ️ Did you know that you can turn concepts into visuals like images, infographics, and word clouds with 1-click? Learn how to do it here.
Imagine you have created a data view that contains two files you want to work with:
Planet Characteristics.csv— describes each planet’s physical charistictsAll about Mars.pptx- a PowerPoint presentation with slides about Mars

Stop to think about what those two files above really are: Files are just containers of ideas. Storytell gives you an entirely new view into those ideas, and a way to work with them as referenceable objects that we call “Concepts”
Viewing those two files as “Concepts”
Storytell gives you the ability to see into any data view as Concepts or as Assets. You can toggle back and forth between the the two in your knowledge panel. If you choose to view your data view as Concepts, we will re-arrange the data to be concept-first. Here’s what those two files above might show in the Concept view:

One of the main ideas (main “Concepts”) in the two files is the types of Planet Compositions . These are all automatically created as Concepts by Storytell, and they are usable in your chat.
🚀 Pro-tip: Learn how to use the @ key to at-mention the specific Concepts you want to use in your prompt. You can also select them from your All Knowledge pane.
For example, you could write a prompt scoping your chat to specific Concepts, like:

Or you could compare one Concept against another Concept:

The beautiful thing about Concepts is that you can “see into” them to understand what specific parts of which assets were used to build that Concept. For example, you could click View Details on the Terrestrial Planets Concept to how it was created:
This is the magic of Concepts: Storytell re-assembles just the relevant parts of each asset that are related to that Concept and bundles them together in a way you can use.
Concept Timelines
Concepts are built from small, relevant pieces (“chunks”) of your unstructured data that all have a high relationship to each other. The chunks that form a Concept are shown on a timeline, so you can see the actual ground-truth data used to build up that concept. You can use the timeline to understand how your data was used to create the Concept.

Key Capabilities
Automatic knowledge extraction

Storytell automatically analyzes your uploaded assets and extracts meaningful concepts without requiring manual tagging or setup. Each concept includes a name, comprehensive summary, and timestamp showing when it was last updated.
Use cases:
Track customer relationships across sales, support, and product interactions
Monitor competitor mentions across research reports and meeting notes
Follow project status updates from various team communications
Interactive knowledge graph

The Concepts feature includes a 3D interactive graph that visualizes relationships between different concepts through connecting lines that represent conceptual distance and relevance. You can rotate, zoom, and pan through this knowledge map to explore connections between ideas.
Graph interactions:
Left-click: Rotate the view to explore different angles
Mouse-wheel/middle-click: Zoom in and out for detailed or overview perspectives
Right-click: Pan across the graph to focus on different areas
Use cases:
Discover unexpected connections between different projects or topics
Identify knowledge clusters where multiple concepts are closely related
Find isolated concepts that might need more supporting information
Comprehensive concept details

When you click on any concept in the graph, you can access detailed information including the full description, related concepts, and source materials that contributed to that concept's creation as well as when the concepts get updated with new information.
Use cases:
Dive deep into specific topics to understand all available information
Trace concepts back to their original source documents
Navigate between related concepts to build comprehensive understanding
How Concepts are made
As data flows through Storytell—whether from emails, PDFs, Zoom recordings, or other sources—Storytell automatically identifies and extracts key entities, ideas, and relationships. These become Concepts that aggregate all relevant information from across your data ecosystem.
For example, if you have a customer called "Beta Tech," Storytell will create a unified view that includes:
Contract details from uploaded PDFs
Email conversations about renewal discussions
Meeting notes from Zoom calls
Support tickets and product feedback
Sales pipeline information
Each concept maintains connections to its source material, so you can always trace information back to the original documents while getting the benefit of a consolidated view.
