Overview

Featured Prompts are curated, ready-to-use prompt templates designed to help you get started quickly with common use cases. These prompts are handpicked by the Storytell team and appear prominently on your homepage, making it easy to discover powerful ways to leverage AI for your work.

When you click a featured prompt, it automatically loads into your prompt bar with all the necessary structure and placeholders.

Featured prompts cover a wide range of use cases including:

  • Executive briefings and strategic analysis

  • Investment research and financial analysis

  • Customer success and churn analysis

  • Sales enablement and deal strategy

  • And many more specialized workflows

ℹ️ Important: Featured prompts only appear in My First Project

Discovering featured prompts

Featured prompts appear on your homepage in the "Explore use cases" section. By default, the Featured tag is selected, so you'll see the six featured prompts immediately when you visit the homepage.

Viewing the featured prompts section

  1. Navigate to your homepage (the main chat interface when no conversation is active)

  2. Scroll down to find the "Explore use cases" section

  3. The section displays featured prompts in a 3-column grid layout

The featured prompts section can be collapsed or expanded. If you've previously collapsed it, you'll see a subtle link that says "Explore use cases". Click it to expand the full section.

Understanding the prompt cards

Each featured prompt appears as a card showing:

  • Icon: A visual indicator representing the prompt category

  • Title: The name of the use case (e.g., "Executive Briefing", "Investment Analysis")

  • Author: The creator of the prompt (typically "Storytell.ai" for featured prompts)

  • Tags: Category labels that help you find related prompts

  • Description: A brief explanation of what the prompt does

Using a featured prompt

When you find a featured prompt you want to use, clicking it will automatically load the prompt template into your prompt bar, ready for customization.

💡 Tip: Featured prompts are designed as starting points. Feel free to modify them to better match your specific needs or combine elements from multiple prompts.

Loading a featured prompt

  1. Browse the featured prompts on your homepage

  2. Click on any prompt card that interests you

  3. The prompt template loads into your prompt bar at the bottom of the screen

  4. Customize the placeholders (like #{text:Topic} or #{file:Data}) with your specific information

  5. Click Submit to start your conversation

Customizing prompt placeholders

Featured prompts use special placeholder syntax that you can customize:

  • Text placeholders: #{text:Label} - Click to enter custom text

  • File placeholders: #{file:Label} - Click to attach files or reference assets

  • Option placeholders: #{opts:Label:["Option1", "Option2"]} - Click to select from predefined options

Simply click on any placeholder in the prompt bar to fill it in with your specific information.

Filtering and searching prompts

Beyond featured prompts, you can explore the full library of available prompts using tags and search.

Filtering by tags

  1. In the "Explore use cases" section, find the tag filter pills below the header

  2. Click any tag pill to filter prompts by that category

  3. The Featured tag is always shown first and is selected by default

  4. Click the same tag again to deselect it and show all prompts

  5. Only one tag can be selected at a time

Common tags include:

  • Featured: Curated prompts highlighted by the Storytell team

  • Strategy: Strategic planning and analysis prompts

  • Sales: Sales enablement and deal management prompts

  • Finance: Financial analysis and reporting prompts

  • Customer Success: Customer health and retention prompts

  • Executives: Leadership and board-level prompts

Searching prompts

  1. Click the search icon (magnifying glass) in the top-right of the "Explore use cases" section

  2. Type your search query in the search field

  3. Results update in real-time as you type

  4. Search matches against:

    • Prompt titles

    • Descriptions

    • Author names

    • Tags

When search is active, tag filtering is disabled. Click a tag to exit search mode and return to tag filtering.

Understanding prompt structure

Featured prompts are designed with a specific structure to maximize effectiveness. Understanding this structure helps you get the most out of each prompt.

⚠️ Important: Template variables (like #{text:Label}) are processed when you submit the prompt. Make sure to fill in all required placeholders before submitting, or Storytell may not understand your request correctly.

Template variables

Featured prompts use a special syntax for placeholders:

  • #{text:Label} - Text input field

    • Example: #{text:Company Name} becomes a text field labeled "Company Name"

  • #{file:Label} - File or asset reference

    • Example: #{file:Internal Data} lets you attach files or reference existing assets

  • #{opts:Label:["Option1", "Option2"]} - Dropdown selection

    • Example: #{opts:Purpose:["Board Meeting", "Strategic Planning"]} shows a dropdown with those options

Customizing after loading

After loading a featured prompt, you can:

  • Edit any text in the prompt

  • Add or remove placeholders

  • Combine multiple prompts
